Kimber Stone is a Canadian author who writes shifter romance. She decided to follow her dream of writing publicly after an accident almost took her life in March 2023. She had already been writing since a young age, including poems, short stories and songs. She is also the mother of a sassy pre-teen and fur mum to 4 crazy cats and a giant dog who thinks she’s a cat. Kimber says, “My life is chaotic but I love it.”
Author Q&A
Are you still learning as a writer?
Absolutely, I try to learn something new every day if I can. I’m still growing as an author and trying to find what works best for me. I take feedback from my readers and strive to hone my craft to make my writing better. New tools often crop up that I need to teach myself in order to help my journey progress.
The joy of writing for me is that there are no limitations, it’s my imagination that fills the blank pages. I can always change directions if I find a method that suits me better as I grow and learn more about myself.
What is the greatest lesson any writer can learn?
Do not compare yourself to anyone else! We are lucky to have a wonderful community of authors helping authors but at the end of the day writing is a very solitary and personal journey. I’ve seen too many authors get discouraged because they aren’t as far ahead as they had hoped and they compare themselves to others who are on completely different paths than them.
My author story, while possibly similar to others, is still mine alone. I choose to cheer for everyone, it’s not an easy industry and everyone who is brave enough to be here deserves to be hyped up. I’m working for my own success and legacy, other people’s success doesn’t diminish all my hard work. It’s easy to look around, compare and become discouraged. That is why I choose to be proud of my fellow authors and continue on my journey for me.
If you woke up today in your favourite place (fictional or real), where would that be?
It would be a fictional place, the Moon Goddess garden (from werewolf lore). Her garden is where all the souls go to rest once they pass away. I would love to wake up there and spend time with all the people I loved and lost over the years.
If you could choose any other profession, what would that be?
Honestly, being an author is my “other profession”. I have a completely separate profession by day. So being able to do what I love after my 9-5 is a dream come true.
But if we’re talking different than writing I would have to say a Broadway performer! That was always one of my biggest dreams growing up, I’ve been training in classical singing since I was fourteen years old but I can’t dance to save my life so the dream sadly could never be hahaha
What is the best piece of advice you were ever given?
Never give up! You never know when all your hard work will pay off and giving up could cause you to miss out on seeing your dreams come true.
