Helena M Craggs

I live in rural West Yorkshire, England, with two ridiculously gorgeous pups, two perpetually cynical cats who very much run the household, a chicken with attitude… and a husband. When I’m not writing, I’m either devouring fantasy novels (the more romance, the better), laughing with friends, or rambling through the countryside with my dogs.

Author Q&A

What is it that most inspires you to keep writing? I write because stories have always been a place of refuge for me. Writing helps protect my mental health by giving me space to explore emotions safely, work through struggles, and transform pain into beauty. It’s both a creative outlet and a form of self-care. Knowing that my stories might offer that same escape or comfort to someone else keeps me coming back to the page.

What is the greatest lesson any writer can learn? The greatest lesson a writer can learn is that comparison is the thief of joy. Every author’s voice and journey are different, and uplifting other writers matters far more than competing with them. Never stop learning your craft, and don’t let negative reviews define you—not every book is for every reader, and that’s okay.

What is one thing people might not know about you? One thing people might not know about me is that I live with MS, which can be challenging at times, but it’s also taught me resilience and patience. A fun fact about me is that I spend my days writing gods, assassins, and morally questionable love interests—and then immediately panic when I have to make small talk in real life… so if I’m awkward in person, just remember I’m far more articulate on the page.
