One of two Amazon Bestselling Authors of the Rift Series. Enjoys genre-hopping and has a head full of unwritten stories!
Author Q&A
Which author did you aspire to be when you were growing up? Brian Jacques and Dick King-Smith. Both wrote books from the POV of animals, and I wanted to do the same when I grew up. I haven’t, but it may be something I do in the future.
What is it that most inspires you to keep writing? My daughter. I had such difficulty having a child, and now I am lucky to have her, I just want the best in life for her. I also want her to see what I am doing, that I have followed my dream, and to know that I will be 100% behind whatever dream she decides to follow.
What has been your greatest achievement to date? Becoming a mum.
Are you still learning as a writer? Every single day. I am still new to the writing game, so any advice I get from fellow authors is helpful.
What is the greatest lesson any writer can learn? Not everyone is going to like your book, and that’s ok.
What are the biggest challenges you face as a writer? Imposter Syndrome!
How do you put yourself in the mind of a reader? By being a reader myself. Before being a mum, I would read a few books a week. Not so much now as I am so busy, but that’s why I am thankful for audiobooks.
How do you think our relationship with literature has been impacted by modern times? I think it has been significantly impacted both in a good and a bad way. Technology may keep us from reading as much because our attention spans aren’t as long as they used to be, but it has also brought readers together in ways that weren’t possible before. We have fan groups, online reading groups, goodreads, and recommendations that can be seen by thousands of people. There are also genres of books that wouldn’t have been allowed in the past, such as dark fantasy, erotica, and LGBTQ+. Modern times have allowed people to be their true selves, which they can explore and express through books.
What are you looking forward to most about Pascify? Honestly… everything. I can’t wait to meet readers of my books. I can’t wait to meet fellow authors, and I can’t wait to party!
What is one thing people might not know about you? I have a Tom Hanks tattoo and showed it to him at one of his book signings.
What trip is top of your bucket list? Japan. I want to go to Nintendo World and all of the cool Pokémon places.
If you woke up today in your favourite place (fictional or real), where would that be? Ixia. It’s the world created by Maria V Snyder in the Poison Study books. It is one of my favourite series. The description of the land and the way magic works there is just perfection.
If you could choose any other profession, what would that be? I always wanted to be a Vet, but after working in a vets for a few years, it wasn’t for me. I’d still want to do something with animals, perhaps a conservationist, a wildlife rehabilitator or a rewilder.
Is there a particular genre or type of non-fiction that you most enjoy reading? It has to be fantasy, whether that’s romantasy, dark fantasy, high fantasy, etc., I just LOVE fantasy. They are the books I truly get lost in.
What is the best piece of advice you were ever given? You never know what someone is going through, so always be kind. I suppose it isn’t really advice, but it’s how I try to live my life. If I had to say what the best piece of advice I was given as a writer, it would be to always write the story YOU want.
