Author Q&A

Which author did you aspire to be when you were growing up? I didn’t really; I read and wrote mostly poetry, while I read a lot of books, I was always drawn to poetry.

What is it that most inspires you to keep writing? My readers, when I get messages from them about the books, telling me how much they enjoy them. It inspires me to write more for them.

What has been your greatest achievement to date? Winning an Inkitt competition and getting my book created into an audiobook for free by them.

Are you still learning as a writer? Yes, I don’t believe any author ever really finishes learning.

What is the greatest lesson any writer can learn? Write for yourself! So many people focus on what others want, and then they lose their passion. Always write for yourself.

What are the biggest challenges you face as a writer? Getting seen and noticed. There are so many authors now, which is amazing, but equally makes it harder.

How do you put yourself in the mind of a reader? I think of myself as the reader, how I would react to things. After reading a lot of books, you learn what sort of reader you are, and typically, what you write is for people like you. So if I’m reading my own work back, it has to get a reaction out of me or I scrap it.

How do you think our relationship with literature has been impacted by modern times? I think it’s made it easier to get books that people want. Before a lot of tropes etc weren’t put in libraries or even bookstores.

What are you looking forward to most about Pascify? Honestly… buying books on my breaks. Meeting the readers is top then buying books.

What is one thing people might not know about you? I spend a lot of my time talking to others who are suffering from gambling addictions, helping them to get over the stigma of it.

What trip is top of your bucket list? Italy, I will get there one day!

If you could choose any other profession, what would that be? A mentor, it’s something I’ve done in the past and enjoyed.

Is there a particular genre or type of non-fiction that you most enjoy reading?  Romance after that, it’s horror.

What is the best piece of advice you were ever given? You can’t please everyone, there will always be people who don’t like something, but many others will love it.
