Author Q&A

Which author did you aspire to be when you were growing up? Ooh, that’s a tough one! I actually grew up reading historical romances and I adore Georgette Heyer novels. I really like her attention to detail and the dry wit her characters have always managed to make me chuckle. I even started writing an historical romance and maybe one day I’ll go back to them – just not today!

What has been your greatest achievement to date? I finally got my first audiobook published last year and it’s amazing! I was super excited when I signed all the paperwork and I never thought I’d achieve that. My next goal is to get one of those orange banners on Amazon! One day I’ll get there!

Are you still learning as a writer? Absolutely. Every time I put pen to paper I learn something new and I can see it in my writing if I go back to my first book and compare it with my latest. They way I craft characters and plot evolves with each story as my planning process develops. How I got through a plot and character arc when I started I’ll never know!!

What are the biggest challenges you face as a writer? The biggest challenge I personally face is finding time! I have a full time job, I’m a wife, and mum to two kids so getting into the office for longer than five minutes can be hard. I end up writing when I’m cooking (which is what I’m doing right now as I type these answers!) or first thing in the morning before the kids get up. I’m grateful my husband is super supportive and helps me find time!

How do you put yourself in the mind of a reader? I read lots! I like to read a lot in the genre(s) that I’m writing and I look at what tropes are super popular so I can build them into my stories. I also watch a lot of TikTok videos to see what people love about books. Is it a particular micro trope? Or is there something that someone thinks is missing from the literary world. I also go to book events to meet other readers and talk to them.

What are you looking forward to most about Pascify? I’m looking forward to being in the book community. We’re such a wonderful group of people who love everything book related! I’m also looking forward to finding five minutes where I can sneak off and look at some new to me authors!

What trip is top of your bucket list? I would absolutely love to do a trip through Japan. The whole place is amazing and I love the culture, the food and I’d just love to lose myself there for a week or two and just see som amazing things.

Is there a particular genre or type of non-fiction that you most enjoy reading? I still love a good old fashioned enemies to lovers. This tends to grab my attention the most, and I’ll love it even more if it’s MM and DARK. Give me alllll the trauma and suffering and broken boys to love!

What is the best piece of advice you were ever given? Best piece of advice I was given is to just take a breath. Sometimes I forget in the heat of the moment and my brain often runs at a million miles a minute. So I just have to remind myself to take a second to stop so I can focus on one thing in front of me.
